Taylor's University Engineering Labs 5S Consulting Workshop
About the engagement
This 5S consulting work supported Taylor's University Engineering Labs through an 11-day workshop and practical activity engagement. The work connected 5S concepts with the realities of engineering laboratory spaces, where tools, equipment, shared work areas, and safety discipline need clear ownership.
The sessions combined briefing, discussion, and practical walkthroughs so participants could relate Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, and Sustain to their own lab environment. Instead of treating 5S as housekeeping, the engagement framed it as a way to make engineering lab work safer, easier to audit, and more reliable for repeated teaching and practical use.
Practical activity focus
The workshop format created space for participants to discuss current lab conditions, identify improvement opportunities, and align on how standards should be made visible. The practical activities helped the team translate 5S from slides into routines that can be sustained across shared engineering facilities.
